Magdalena
THE MAGDALENA
Magdalena is the most important holiday in Castellon. It is celebrated on the 3rd Saturday before Lent. It represents the founding of Castellon, in which people left the mountain and went to the plain in 1252.
This tradition has been celebrated for seven centuries and every year the citizens from Castellon go to the mountain to remember their past. This holiday has only nine days of duration, in spite of this, everyday has a special story. Every morning at 2 p.m. all people goes to see “La Mascleta”, it is a kind of fireworks but it takes place in the morning and the main objective of this is the noise. In the afternoon people can go to different places and do different kind of activities that depend on the age and the day, for example: one day the town hall fills the main street with confetti, other day people go to see the “Pregón” (it is a parade, in which people from the province of Castellon play typical instruments and dance. Moreover at night in some squares you can find a lot of dj’s that play in the streets, as a consequence all the city is full of young people dancing and having fun.
However you mustn’t forget that this holiday represents the founding of Castellon, for this reason there is one day when all citizens of Castellon have to go up the mountain. There, there was the ancient city of Castellon and they must ring the bell of the Magdalena hermitage.
To sum up Magdalena is an ancient tradition that takes place every year in Castellon for commemorate its past. In addition its success during the last years has made it and international party. This is the reason why many foreigners visit us and wear our typical green ribbon.

Hi guys!
I’m going
to tell you something about the festival of Castellón, “Las fiestas de la
Magdalena.” This festival has passed,
but we had a lot of exams and we couldn’t write before.
The festivities
take place on the third Saturday of Lent; this year they started on second of
March and ended on tenth of the same month. These festivities have as a reason the commemoration of the origins of the city, and moving
it from the hill of the Magdalena to the
flat in 1251.
In
2010 they have considered of international tourist interest.
During
this week you can do different activities, and also you can see a lot of
parades with music and animation.
I think the more representative day is the
first Sunday because the “castelloneros” (people who live in Castellón) walk from the city center to the top of the hill. This
procession is called “la romería” and they do it wearing the typical shirt, and
one reed in their hands. When they
arrived at the top, they eat a typical foot called “ximos”; also lupines, peanuts and dried sausages. It’s typical to
buy a small cupcake with a hole in the middle called “rollo”. At mid-afternoon they return to the city.

HOW IS EASTER'S GASTRONOMY IN SPAIN?
Hello everyone!
Easter is coming, and as you may know every country has its own Easter's gastronomy, so I'm going to talk about ours.
In the east of Spain, it's typical to eat a kind of cake called “Mona de Pascua”. There are many kinds of “mona”, but the traditional one is made of bread's dough, aniseed, almonds and a boiled egg. There are others with chocolate eggs and fruits.
It could have different animal forms: monkey, rabbit, snake , or even a lizard!
Besides, it is very colourful: the eggs are painted with colouring, and also the aniseed has different colours.
I really like the “mona” because it is sweet and tasty.
I'll leave you a photo, so you can see how it is.
See you!
